Vegan Resources
I've been vegan for over a decade, and my passion for rescuing fish is closely linked to my vegan philosophy. Here, I've compiled some resources that people may find useful if they are interested in going vegan.
"...What else is it that should trace the insuperable line? Is it the faculty of reason, or perhaps, the faculty for discourse?...the question is not, Can they reason? nor, Can they talk? but, Can they suffer? Why should the law refuse its protection to any sensitive being?... The time will come when humanity will extend its mantle over everything which breathes... "
- Jeremy Bentham (1748 - 1832)

Vegan Animal Rescues & Sanctuaries
Educational Channels:
(Not necessarily vegan-centered, but they accurately and reliably communicate important science/info that I feel often overlaps with veganism - such as environmental and nutrition science)
Books & Reading
I'm not recommending these because I necessarily agree with everything contained within them. Rather, I think they offer an opportunity to explore the ethics of veganism on a deeper level and provide insight into the varied arguments in favor of (and against) veganism. They can help you see what sort of discussions exist and aid in forming your own view on the topic.

Common Pro-Vegan Misinformation
Although I'm passionate about vegan ethics, like every group, veganism unfortunately has many individuals within it that will advertise lies and misinformation during the course of their advocacy. Here, I've compiled a list of some that I think are worth being aware of so you can pursue your interest in learning about/going vegan in a more informed manner. I'm very passionate about adhering to evidence-based views, which is why I'm dedicating an entire section to this.
"You don’t need to supplement B12 (or can get it from plants like nori, spirulina, or soil)"
Vitamin B12 is not reliably available from unfortified plant foods - it’s produced by bacteria and primarily found in animal products. Plant sources like algae or fermented foods often contain inactive analogs that don’t meet human needs. Deficiency can lead to nerve damage, anemia, and fatigue, sometimes developing slowly over years. All vegans should use B12-fortified foods (nutritional yeast, plant milks, cereals) or supplements regularly (e.g., 25 -100 mcg daily or higher weekly doses). Get levels checked periodically.
"Vegan diets always provide enough protein easily, and you never need to think about it"
Plant proteins are generally complete when eaten in variety (beans, lentils, tofu, grains, nuts), and most people can meet needs without issue on adequate calories. However, some new vegans undereat protein-rich foods while relying heavily on fruits/veggies, leading to low intake, muscle loss, or hunger. Aim for diverse sources throughout the day. Athletes, older adults, or those in calorie deficit may need more intentional planning or higher volumes.

"Milk leeches calcium from the bones and causes osteoporosis"
Countries with high dairy consumption (e.g., Western nations) sometimes have higher osteoporosis rates than some low-dairy Asian or African populations. However, this ignores confounders like longevity, physical activity, vitamin D levels, genetics, and overall diet/lifestyle. Dairy is not essential for strong bones, but it’s a convenient source of key nutrients.
